WWI, Harlem bandleader Jim Europe and his band were part of the Army's 369th black regiment, the "Harlem Hellfighters ". Served in France, introducing Europe to jazz music from Harlem. Combat heroism of the 369th led to jazz becoming wildly popular in Europe.
